This summer, Dutch design duo Viktor&Rolf will treat us to the exhibition ‘The House of Viktor&Rolf’. The retrospective will be presented at the...fashion designerBarbican Art Gallery from 18th June until 14th September 2008. It’s for the very first time the designers are exhibiting in the UK. On the Barbican Art Gallery website they are referred to as ‘radical en highly influential'.

An overview of the last fifteen years of Viktor&Rolf will be on. Part of the exhibition are the mushroom shaped pieces from the Atomic Bomb (1998-2000) collection; creations from the Russian Doll collection (1999-2000), where the models were wearing haute couture pieces of 70kg; and the Bells collection (2000-2001) with creations covered in hundreds of bells. Show stopper of the 2006-2007 show, the strapless bridal dress covered in silver, including the brides’ bouquet will be on show too.

Especially for this exhibition, the Barbican museum shop will be turned around into The House of Viktor & Rolf shop; accessories, clothes and fragrances by V&R will be available to purchase.

French designer Christian Lacroix has designed an exclusive Evian water bottle in the style of an enchanted...ice queen. Inspired by the red wedding dress he created for Madonna, the water bottles are part of the Design Icons exhibition at Harrods in London. One of the 99 bottles that have been made will be auctioned in aid of the Royal Marsden Hospital, and the minimum reserve will be £1000.

Design Icons at Harrods opened yesterday, where it honours the connection between designers and the products they create. Vivienne Westwood and Roland Mouret have been asked to lecture at the London Design Museum, which will run alongside the Design Icons exhibition.

Inspiration
Our inspiration lies in the non-colours of abandoned deserts and sand flats,
which we find in the use of natural raw materials. Their sometimes rustic character
places delicate and raw alongside each other.
We see how technological...developments and perfected techniques can achieve an upgrading of basics in both form and material, so that a contemporary, casual clothing style emerges.
Modern, present-day non-colours essentials, with accents in faded pastels and complemented by distinctive gold-tinted items.

Statement
Inspired by nature, valuable basic essentials, non-colours.
